The final conference of the FP7 FINNOV project (Finance, Innovation & Growth, www.finnov-fp7.eu), focuses on the need for finance to be reformed so that it serves innovation and value creation - rather than innovation serving finance and too much value destruction. Our motto is: finance for creative destruction not destructive creation.

Professor Mariana Mazzucato was invited to present at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation seminar, which took place on 26th September 2011 in Brussels, Belgium. She spoke about the role of the member states and the EU for innovation policy. The seminar was attended by representatives from the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation.

Roberto Simonetti (FINNOV team member, WP2) attended Seventh International Critical Management Studies (CMS) Conference. Roberto was a conveynor for the session entitled "Financialization: a meaningful new ‘ization’?" and will present a paper on the subject of "Financialisation as an enabler of innovation? The case of UK biotech".
FINNOV researchers have been invited to attend and chair discussions at the VICO final conference entitled "Entrepreneurial finance: the real impact". This event will conclude a 3-year study funded by the European Commission 7th Framework around the topic of the impact of Venture Capital and Private Equity financing on the economic performance of innovative entrepreneurial ventures.

The workshop is organised by the Polytechnic University of Marche and offers an opportunity to present the latest research on various aspects of the economy as a complex system made up of multiple heterogeneous interacting agents.
Petr Zemcik (leader of WP6) will be attending the European Real Estate Society Conference 2011 and presenting his work on the subject of Housing Services and Volatility Bounds with Real Estate Returns.

At the 27th Annual Meeting of the American Real Estate Society (ARES) Petr Zemcik (team leader of WP6 and Ashot Tsharakyan (WP6) presented FINNOV findings. The title of the presentation was Rent Deregulation, Tenure Choice, Real Estate Price Expectations, and Consumption.
Two FINNOV researchers, Professor Giovanni Dosi (Leader of WP4) and Professor Lubomir Lizal (WP6), are involved in organising the sessions for the DIME Final conference. Professor Dosi is managing the session on the subject of Growth and Development and Professor Lizal is coordinating the session around the topic of Economic Dynamics and the Environment.
The TEMAFIC conference on the Financial Constraints, Firm and Aggregate Dynamics received the financial support of the EU through the Network of Excellence DIME (Dynamics of Institutions and Markets), and through the FP7 Project FINNOV (Finance, Innovation & Growth) .
FINNOV researchers from the University of Bordeaux (WP5) organised the 2010 Conference for the European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy (EAEPE). EAEPE is an active scholarly association in the area of institutional economics broadly conceived.
Professor Mariana Mazzucato (FINNOV Consortium Coordinator and Leader for WP1 and WP2) was invited to the Lisbon Civic Forum 2010 to present FINNOV project findings and policy recommendations as a result of the first 18 months of FINNOV research.
Pelin Demirel (WP2) and Federico Tamagni (WP4) presented the FINNOV findings during the session on the Firm Growth at the 37th Annual Conference of the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics (EARIE).
As an example of a successful FP7 project, FINNOV representatives were invited to participate at the exploratory workshop on the directions of the Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities programme for 2012-2013. The FINNOV presentation focused on the advantages/disadvantages of participating in the EU-funded project research project.
The 13th Conference of the International Schumpeter Society took place at Aalborg Congress and Culture Centre, Europa Plads 4, 9000 Aalborg, Denmark on 21-24 June 2010. The title of the conference was "Innovation, Organisation, Sustainability and Crises".
The FINNOV Coordinator, Prof Mazzucato, was invited to take part in the hearing on "Social Innovation" with Ms. Patricia Reilly, a member of the cabinet of the European Commissioner responsible for research and innovation.
FINNOV Project was selected to be presented at the conference "Europe 2020 strategy - Innovation insights from European research in socio-economic sciences" organised by the European Commission (Jean-Michel Baer and Pierre Valette).

The Innovation and Inequality: New Indicators from Pharma and Beyond workshop was sponsored by DIME (Dynamics of Institutions and Markets in Europe), The Open University’s Centre for Innovation, Knowledge and Development (IKD) and FINNOV, an EC FP7 project.
Americans have supported a heightened role for the government in restoring economic growth. And there has been much concern about how to stabilize and regulate financial firms. For a return to prosperity, however, Americans will have to rely on healthy non-financial corporations.
The event was organised by Pierre Valette, the Head of Research in the Economic, Social sciences and Humanities –Unit based at the EC’s Directorate-General Research, in preparation for the EU conference entitled "EU-2020 strategy - Insights from European research in socioeconomic sciences".
FINNOV’s relevance and success made it the only project invited to the “Improving Governance in European Innovation Policy” workshop.
The conference created a high-profile forum to delve into the role of financial institutions in supporting or undermining economic security in the advanced nations of the West, and the implications for industrial innovation and economic performance.
Dr Andrea Mina presented the FINNOV project to the FINESS team to encourage further collaboration and exchange of ideas between FINESS and FINNOV researchers.
